About the Project

The purpose of this conceptual project is to understand a simple mechanism and design a tool that utilizes the mechanism. We chose a character from Tim Burton’s collection of short stories and designed a tool to help the character. The final design had to be made of wood. I chose the screw, and the character I chose was Roy, the Toxic Boy.

So, what is this?

Roy the toxic boy likes toxic gas, and dies when his friends bring him to a garden and he breathes in fresh air. This portable sprayer MP-730 is designed to improve his his life. It allows him to go out without choking over fresh air.

Portable Sprayer MP-730

Roy is left handed (he has no finger on his right hand and uses a spray can on his left hand), and MP-730 is designed to operate with his left hand. He carries MP-730 on his shoulders and clamps it on his belly. He puts an aerosol can on the holder, and fixes it and sprays it by tightening the screw with his left hand.

Design Development

As mentioned above, one of the objectives of this conceptual project is to understand a simple mechanism, and I chose one of the greatest, albeit very simple, inventions of the human beings; the screw. I tried to use the simple three principles of the screw to make the world a little better place for the Toxic Boy to live. Click here for the details of the design development.
