Concept Sketches

Design ideas emerge from people's needs, then I define problems and consider how I can provide solutions with my design skills. I define design concept and consider what implications will need to be addressed throughout the design process. This process involves brainstorming, making mind maps, drawing rough sketches.

Rough Sketches
Rough sketches in design conceptualization

Sketches at this stage are mainly to visualize some initial ideas in order to organize and develop ideas for myself. They can be rough as long as they describe points to discuss. At this stage, I explored some possible gurney design, wheelchair design and conversion patterns though rough sketching.

Many things need to be considered to design a product. Brain storming helps to develop ideas, and mind maps help to organize ideas and also to present the ideas. It is important to clarify design implications at early stages so that they can be addressed throughout the design process. The diagram below shows implications of wheelchair design and gurney design. Many hand-written rough mind maps have been created to draw this final diagram.

Concept Sketches, EAS Rhythm Improviser

The purpose of this studio project is to understand DADA and design a "personal" media player from Dadaists' point of view in today's context. Here are some examples of idea sketches in the conceptualization stage. Unlike the rough sketches above, these marker-rendered sketches are to expand initial ideas and to present the ideas to other people.
